GOD, MARRIAGE AND GOVERNMENT

Many are saying “Marriage ought to be defined by the individual states and the church, and the federal government ought to stay out of it”.

They continue: “Nowhere in the U.S. Constitution  does  Congress, or the Executive, or the Court have any authority to have any say in the matter.”

I would disagree.

For anyone to say government, which was ordained by God to uphold his moral laws, has no role in protecting marriage such a person is in rebellion to God, whether libertarian, conservative or statist.

It is very important to understand that God inspired man to create government. Thus, the presence and authority of Government is determined and ordained by God.

“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.”-Romans 13:1

Furthermore, it is necessary to understand that God  personally defined marriage as between a man and a woman.

Genesis 2:24 describes marriage as “a man leaving his parents and being united to his wife.” (Also see: 1 Corinthians 7:2-16 and Ephesians)

Government is ordained by God to uphold God’s definitions, God’s standards and God’s will.

Our unalienable rights, furthermore, are defined by the nature of God and the fact we are made in His image.

Those who are caving in to the lie of Satan that the government has no role in this do not know anything about who God is, what God is like, and what God’s intention are for having ordained government.

Advocates of gay marriage say: “Government cannot legislate morality.”

“In fact, every act of government “legislates morality,” the only question being, whose? But if five or more members of the U.S. Supreme Court radically redefine God-ordained marriage, and try to force that radical agenda on all of us by law, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.‘s “Letter from a Birmingha Jail” makes clear our Christian duty”, says Gary Glenn, President of American Family Association-Michigan 

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in his 1963 “Letter From The Birmingham Jail”, stated: “One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that ‘an unjust law is no law at all.’ Now, what is the difference between the two? How does one determine whether a law is just or unjust? A just law is a man-made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law. …I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law.”

The fact is that too many people are rejecting God and, subsequently, trying to marginalize morality under the false premise of individual liberty.

Sadly, many “professing” Christians are joining the bandwagon of endorsing same sex marriage. However, this comes as no surprise to God, who prophesied in His Word that man would indeed abandon his ways and reject His revealed will for our lives in favor of popular culture:

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;”-II Timothy 4:3

Nevertheless, man’s rejection of God’s Word does not change the fact that God instituted marriage as a means of creating and sustaining family, as well as creating and sustaining a strong and moral society.

King added:: “Of course, there is nothing new about this kind of civil disobedience. It was evidenced sublimely in the refusal of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to obey the laws of Nebuchadnezzar, on the ground that a higher moral law was at stake. It was practiced superbly by the early Christians, who were willing to face hungry lions and the excruciating pain of chopping blocks rather than submit to certain unjust laws of the Roman Empire. …If today I lived in a Communist country where certain principles dear to the Christian faith are suppressed, I would openly advocate disobeying that country’s anti-religious laws.”

It is indeed on the basis of strong families, as defined by God, that the future of our nation rests. Hence, there can be no doubt that to redefine marriage as between any two people, regardless of gender, would an action against the will of God and the best interest of both nation and family.

Gary Glenn concludes: “Sadly, it is in the Land of the Free in which Christian principles are being suppressed today.  And since declaring marriage to include homosexual couples defined by their sin would obviously not be a legal “code that squares with the moral law or the law of God,” Dr. King suggests we must — like Christians of old — be willing to face the modern equivalent of the fiery furnace, the lions, or the chopping block to resist it.”

Let’s pray that the Supreme Court remembers that is it their responsibility to uphold God’s rights and protect the institution of marriage between one man and one woman, which God created and blessed.
